Official pictures of the new BMW 4-series GranCoupe leak online ahead of the car's public debut at the Geneva motor showPictures of the new BMW 4-series GranCoupe have leaked online ahead of its planned public debut at the Geneva motor show in March.
The five-door 4-series GranCoupe has been conceived as a more practical alternative to the 3-series saloon, and will sit alongside the existing 4-series coupe and convertible models in BMW's model line-up.
The GranCoupe sits on the same architecture as the 4-series coupe and 3-series saloon, and is understood to measure 4640mm long by 1825mm wide, with a height of 1370mm.
While that makes the GranCoupe exactly the same length as the 4-series coupe, the addition its rear doors and strengthened structure has raised added 100kg to its weight. Its boot capacity is tipped to be the same as the 3-series saloon, at 480 litres.
BMW appears to have given the GranCoupe a liftback body, with a more heavily curved roofline than that of the coupe that's visible in these pictures. Although visually the car looks very similar to the 3-series saloon, the GranCoupe uses a more heavily raked windscreen and rear window. The cabin of the 4-series GranCoupe is carried over unchanged from the coupe model.
The 4-series GranCoupe is likely to receive the same petrol and diesel engine options as the 4-series coupe and convertible. The GranCoupe will be natively rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive will be optional on some versions.
Official pricing for the 4-series GranCoupe is unlikely to be revealed before its public debut in Geneva, but a premium of around 5000 over the equivalent 3-series saloon is expected.
These images first appeared on Autofilou.
